The 'Cryptocurrency Capital' Competition Is on Fire... New York City Mayor Says I Will Get My Paycheck in Bitcoin

Eric Adams (photo), elected mayor of New York City, said he would receive his first three months' salary in Bitcoin.
According to CoinDesk on the 5th (local time), Adams-elect declared, "If I become the mayor, I will receive 100% of my salary for the first three months in Bitcoin." He then expressed his ambition to "make New York the center of the cryptocurrency industry."

Considering that the monthly salary of the U.S. market is around $21,562 (about 25.57 million won), he will receive about one bitcoin in three months' salary. However, the number of bitcoins he will receive is expected to change depending on the bitcoin market price next year since taking office.

Adams-elect's move is interpreted as a response to Mayor MyMay's announcement that he will receive salaries with Bitcoin. When Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, who recently won re-election, said he would receive his first salary in Bitcoin next term, Adams-elect said he would receive three months' worth of salary in Bitcoin.

Foreign media analyzed that competition between New York and Miami to occupy the "cryptocurrency capital" has ignited. Miami is taking the lead in building a cryptocurrency-friendly city, led by the Suarez market, such as attracting mining companies, introducing bitcoin payments, and issuing its own coins.
